THE THEME FOR 2024 WAS 'FIRE'
Apologies for the delays! We have been badly affected by bereavements and illness this year, but we have now produced the shortlists for schools and adults. The details have been emailed to the relevant people. The names of winners in all categories will be revealed at an event (date tbc) in the autumn.
The judges for the 2024 competition were Matt Howard and Emily Zobel Marshall. Their profiles are on the About Us page. The winning poems for our previous competition are on the Winners 2022 page.
The competition is open to everyone, anywhere in the world. It is not necessary to be connected with a school or college.
All shortlisted entrants will be invited to a celebration event.
Winning poems will be published on this website.
Maximum of two entries per person, each no longer than forty lines, previously unpublished in print or online.
There are three categories - primary, secondary and adult. In each category, collective as well as individual entries are welcomed.
Entries must be digital, preferably in WORD, and should not include the poet's name or address. Handwritten or illustrated poems are welcome, but must be emailed in scanned versions.
The date of our gala celebration for the winners at the University of Leeds is not yet fixed but will be in September/October 2024.
Include your name and school or home address only in the body of your email, with the titles of the poems. Address is [email protected]
*Because of requests from schools, we extended the deadline for the 2024 competition
